The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced Shahid Afridi has taken over as captain in T20Is shortly after Younis Khan announced his resignation from T20is cricket quickly when Pakistan won the 2009 Icc Cricket world Twenty20. Afridi said that it was unjust for them to make his plans public, but he later stated that they wants a retirement game, which didn't take place since he called off a meeting with the PCB to discuss the matter. He made his T20I and international cricket retirement announcement in February 2017. Afridi made a brief comeback to international cricket in April 2018 after being selected for the Rest of the World XI team again for Hurricane Victims T20 Challenge.  When Eoin Morgan would have to leave the team due to injury, he continued to serve as captain. Afridi declared that he would not play for Pakistan again in international cricket.
